To whom this may concern:
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Please be sure this gets to the decision maker of the company/business.
My name is Jakob Rowton and I am a sophmore at West Ouachita High School, and I am writing this with the hopes of your support.
I have been chosen to attend the Down Under Sports Tournament in Australia this summer for the North Central Conference Cross Country Team. There were only 6 Cross Country runners chosen from the state of Louisiana and it would be an honor to be able to represent my school, my state, and my country. I am currently looking for sponsors to make donations on my behalf to help me raise the money to be able to go. Any donations are appreciated. Please see the attached form for my sponsorship.
Any donation will put you in a drawing for a trip to Australia or a 5 day cruise.
If you have any questions please call 318-450-2250. Please leave message if no answer.
I am looking forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Jakob Rowton

Two years ago, West Ouachita student Jakob Rowton went out for track practice — or at least he thought it was track practice.
After Rowton started his fifth mile, he realized he actually was at cross country practice, but he kept on going.
“After that, I liked it, and they said I was good at it,” Rowton said.
From a small mistake came the opportunity of a lifetime for the West Ouachita athlete. Midway through this past school year Rowton received an invitation to Australia as part of the North Central Conference Cross Country team.
The 25th annual Down Under Sports Tournaments are July 2 through 10 and have competitions for football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, wrestling and cheer and dance. The cross country event is a 5.7K challenge.
The Northeast Louisiana area has sent several football players over the years, but this is the first cross country athlete of knowledge.
“Just to go down there and compete against really good runners and see what it’s all about is exciting,” Rowton said. It’s something you don’t want to miss out on. You’re never going to get this chance again.”
The student athlete, who also plays basketball, attracted the staff of Down Under Sports after starting his young cross country career with early success.
Rowton said in his first meet he finished in the Top 4 on his team, running three miles in 19 minutes.
By the end of his first season, Rowton had cut his time to 17:50.
Although the excitement of traveling to Australia outweighs anything else, he and his family are responsible for raising the $5,000 it will take to get Rowton across the world.
“We have about $2,200 left to raise,” Rowton said. “We went to Proven Grounds and sold food to help out. We’ve done car
washes, took up donations ... we’re doing different stuff.”
The biggest fundraiser will hopefully come out of the concert at Proven Grounds June 22 featuring a performance by country singer Frank Foster
Proven Grounds is an open area off Highway 34 with a venue for concerts, as well as a three-mile obstacle course for runners.
